Tough Girl of the Year Award goes to…

Lexi surely wins the “Tough Girl of the Year” award… I swear nothing stops this mare! She could be an icicle from head to toe and it never phases her ~ She is a tank! Always right outside in the worst of the weather and always seems to be having a good time doing it. I can just hear her now.. “I don’t need no stinkin’ run-in!”

Hoof care day!

Yesterday was hoof care day! Luckily we had a few extra hands around to help (and take photos) and the weather couldn’t have been nicer!

I also have to say that I really love our hoof care appointments because I always leave them feeling reassured that we are on the right course. I grew up having very different care and training beliefs from what I now follow for the most part. I’m ok being that person somewhat on the edge, trying a different and more natural approach than most, but to then meet with a health care practitioner who tells you what you are doing is just right.. gives you a whole new level of confidence and ambition. This visit she told me, “With the property you have here, you should be able to trim these guys yourself.” So for now we’ll continue to work on handling everyone’s hooves regularly and eventually I’ll work on learning how to trim.

Our little herd

Lexi, Strider & Ethereal

Strider has officially made the full transition in with the mares, completing our little herd. Its amazing to watch and allow nature to take its course… knowing they will work it out. I was scared for Strider at first, being in the weakened condition he is in, but all has turned out ok and there have been no injuries to speak of. Lexi is now very happy to be “above” someone else and Ethereal seems to just have the “you two work it out” attitude. It makes me very happy to see the three of them them out there grazing together…

What is that!?

They aren’t quite sure if they want to say hello or run away :)
