Look at these tough girls! Just got another 8″ dumped on us and its still coming down. The horses are having a great time though, covered in icicles, racing around in the snow..

We’ve got about a foot here and its still snowing but the horses couldn’t seem to care less. Lexi is having a ball out there in the snow… every time I look out I see her running, bucking and rolling around, being her frisky little self. Ethereal just wanted to eat my camera, assuming there must be a treat in there somewhere!? I do have to say that I love seeing how tough our girls have gotten.. last year Ethereal never would have made it through this weather without a blanket and this year she has a nice thick coat keeping her warm. Last year, if a flake fell she would head for the run-in and this year, I can’t tell you the last time I saw her in it. Lexi on the other hand has always been a tough girl, never heading out of the weather. It makes me so happy to see them thrive in their natural state!

My heart is broken… I am incredibly sad to share that we had to say goodbye to Strider yesterday. His weak old body just could not handle this incredibly harsh winter and we had to let him go. I am without words, my heart is in pain and I miss him so much already.
I’m so lucky to have been a part of his life for any amount of time, I just wish we had more. I know that loss is part of rescue, a part of farming… a part of life for that matter, but to be honest this is my first time experiencing a loss like this and I am struggling. I’m trying to take comfort in knowing that he left this world surrounded by those that loved and cared for him. He was “my boy,” the sweetest guy ever and a big puppy disguised as a horse.
We will miss him terribly but his memory will forever live on.. RIP my sweet boy
